The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has deployed a high-tech solution to combat contaminated water complaints, rolling out a state-of-the-art robotic Pollution Identification Machine. The device, also called a Pipe Inspection Camera System, enables officials to detect water contamination and pipeline leakages quickly, ensuring timely corrective action.
In a special review meeting at Khairatabad headquarters on Saturday, HMWSSB MD Ashok Reddy outlined a comprehensive action plan to transform the city into a “pollution-free water supply” area. He emphasized reducing water contamination complaints to zero by addressing issues proactively.
Reddy directed officials to analyze complaints received over the past two years, identifying hotspots and recurring problem areas. “Authorities must collect detailed information on regions with frequent contamination reports and assess the root causes,” he said.
The MD also instructed division-wise surveys of aging pipelines. Based on the data, officials are required to prepare plans for replacing worn-out pipes, prioritizing areas with multiple complaints. Arrangements for constructing new pipelines in place of damaged ones must be finalized promptly, with estimates submitted for approval.
Officials were asked to ensure that pipeline reconstruction works are completed within the next two months. The robotic system will assist HMWSSB in monitoring and preventing further leakages or contamination, allowing the board to address issues quickly and maintain safe water supply without inconvenience to residents.
The deployment of robotic technology marks a significant step toward modernizing HMWSSB’s water management system while ensuring transparency and efficiency in resolving public complaints.
