With the monsoon season approaching, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched an intensive fogging drive across the city to control mosquito breeding and prevent the spread of diseases such as dengue and malaria.
The fogging operations, which began as pilot drives in a few divisions, have now been expanded across more than 30 circles in the city. GHMC’s entomology department, along with field staff, is carrying out large-scale fogging activities using VMF and PMF machines in densely populated residential areas and mosquito-prone zones.
In Goshamahal Circle, fogging was conducted in Dattatreya Nagar and Moosarambagh Division, especially near Aurora College. Amberpet Division saw action in Patel Nagar, Chennareddy Nagar, Kakatiya Line, Babu Nagar, Polytechnic Road, Akash Nagar, Kumar Nagar, and Owaisi Nagar. Similar efforts were made in Saroornagar Circle, where fogging was taken up in Venkateshwara Nagar, Mangapuram Colony, and Krishna Nagar Colony. Meerpet Corporator Jerry Pothula Prabhudas actively participated in the campaign.
In other zones, including Mushirabad, Uppal, Jeedimetla, Nagole, and Patancheru, local corporators monitored the operations. GHMC officials ensured that all fogging activities were executed efficiently, covering key residential and public areas.
GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan appealed to citizens and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to support the initiative by maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings, ensuring there is no stagnant water, and covering open containers. He stressed that community participation is essential for effective mosquito control during the monsoon.
On Saturday alone, fogging operations were carried out in areas like LB Nagar, Kapra, Uppal, Hayathnagar, Malakpet, Santosh Nagar, Chandrayangutta, Charminar, Falaknuma, Rajendranagar, Mehdipatnam, Karwan, Somajiguda, Jubilee Hills, Malkajgiri, Secunderabad, Begumpet, Erragadda, Gachibowli, Miyapur, Patancheru, Moosapet, Kukatpally, Quthbullapur, Suraram, and Alwal. GHMC has urged residents to stay alert and cooperate with fogging teams. The comprehensive drive aims to make the city safer and healthier before the rains set in.
