The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Saturday officially partnered with Manthani and Cherial Municipalities under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ (MoHUA) Swachh Shehar Jodi (SSJ) initiative, part of Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban (SBM-U) 2.0. The collaboration aims to provide technical and operational support in sanitation, waste management, and urban cleanliness.

The MoUs were signed at the GHMC Head Office by GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, along with Ch. Venkanna, Commissioner of Manthani Municipality, and S. Nagender, Commissioner of Cherial Municipality, in the presence of GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijaya Lakshmi. Earlier, the national rollout of the SSJ initiative was held at IIT Delhi Technopark, Sonipat, with Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, senior officials, and representatives from Urban Local Bodies across India in attendance.

The initiative introduces a 100-day structured mentorship program, where high-performing cities mentor low-performing cities within the same State or Union Territory. The partnership focuses on eight key areas: visible cleanliness, waste segregation, solid waste management, access to sanitation, wastewater management, mechanization of desludging services, welfare of sanitation workers, advocacy for Swachhata, and citizen feedback mechanisms.

Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said the program promotes collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and accountability among cities. The event also featured interactions with creators of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 Anthem and discussions with officials including Roopa Mishra and others.
