The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched a large-scale adoption drive to provide homes for stray puppies and raise awareness about adopting street dogs. The initiative, which began on Monday, was conducted in three zones—Kukatpally, Serilingampally, and LB Nagar.

On the first day, eight puppies over two months old found new homes with pet parents who will provide them with love and care. The adoption drive took place at Patel Kunta HUDA Park, Allwyn Colony in Kukatpally, and the Dog Park in Serilingampally. GHMC has expanded the program to encourage more people to adopt street dogs, similar to pedigree breeds.

Since the inception of GHMC’s adoption drives, 3,093 dogs have found homes in Hyderabad. The newly adopted puppies have been vaccinated and handed over to pet parents, who will receive regular updates and reminders for free vaccinations, deworming, and other necessary medical care. GHMC will also monitor the puppies’ health and sterilize them at six months of age at no cost.

To further support pet parents, GHMC is providing free anti-rabies vaccinations, and post-adoption veterinary check-ups. The civic body is also collaborating with animal welfare organizations to ensure proper training and socialization of adopted puppies.

An official stated that the drive aims to provide shelter, care, and safety for stray puppies while educating participants on the importance of adopting street dogs. The initiative also seeks to control the stray dog population and reduce untoward incidents in the city.

Pet parents were guided on essential aspects of puppy care, including vaccinations, nighttime routines, and dietary needs, ensuring a smooth transition for the pups into their new homes. GHMC continues to encourage responsible pet adoption, fostering a  compassionate approach toward street animals.
