In the wake of the upcoming monsoon season, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan has issued orders to take special measures on dilapidated and dangerous buildings and structures within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits.
He suggested that special surveys should be conducted to identify the dilapidated buildings, structures, old boundary walls and added that the structural safety of the identified buildings should be assessed based on the report of the engineering department of the corporation. He said a final list should be prepared at each circle level as per the report. “If government school buildings in dilapidated condition are identified, they should be immediately informed to the education department officials,” he said.
He also said notices should be issued to the identified dilapidated buildings and added that the most dangerous buildings should be immediately vacated or sealed while noting that barricades and warning boards should be installed around the buildings.
It was suggested that if the building owners undertake repairs, they should ensure that they comply with the GHMC standards and a special drive should be taken up for the demolition of the dilapidated buildings. He said the details of each building should be updated in a Google spreadsheet and the report should be submitted to the GHMC headquarters.
He said the Deputy City Planners, Assistant City Planners of all circles should take immediate action and submit a report and added that the Executive Engineers under the supervision of the GHMC Chief Engineer (Maintenance) should submit a report on the stability and strength of the structure while string that the Zonal Commissioners should review this process in their circles and take action within the specified time.
The Commissioner warned that disciplinary action would be taken against the concerned officials if there is negligence or delay in complying with hid orders on the dilapidated buildings and structures as per the rules.
