Girls dominate medical admissions in AP

76%-85% seats in Dental and AYUSH Courses

Girls have once again emerged as clear frontrunners in medical education admissions in Andhra Pradesh, securing a significant majority of seats across Dental and AYUSH courses for the 2025-26 academic year. According to admission data released by Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, female candidates have secured between 76.17 percent and 85 percent of seats in these courses, reflecting their growing dominance in the medical field.

The detailed admission report was recently submitted by University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Chandrasekhar to State Health and Family Welfare Minister Satyakumar Yadav. The analysis revealed that girls outperformed boys not only in the government quota  but also in the management quota seats.

In undergraduate medical education, girls secured 60.72 percent of MBBS seats, reaffirming their consistent academic excellence. However, their dominance was even more pronounced in Dental and AYUSH courses. As per the university data,in BDS, out of 1,519 seats available in government and private dental colleges, 1,157 seats (76.17%) were secured by girls. In the convener quota, girls obtained 76.31 percent of seats, while in the management quota they secured 76.09 percent.

Similarly in Homeopathy, of the total 526 seats, 380 (83.70%) went to female candidates. Girls secured 83.33 percent in the convener quota and an impressive 85 percent in the management quota. In Ayurveda, out of 98 seats, 74 (75.51%) were secured by girls, and in Unani, girls claimed 34 out of 42 seats, accounting for 85 percent of admissions. The report highlighted that many students who were unable to secure MBBS seats opted for BDS and AYUSH courses, where female participation was particularly high.

The university also informed the Health Minister that the ongoing postgraduate medical admissions are showing a similar pattern, with female MBBS graduates leading in PG seat allocations as well. Minister Satyakumar Yadav expressed satisfaction over the encouraging trend and stated that the government would continue to support equal educational opportunities and promote women’s participation in professional courses.
