Goshamahal police busted an online cricket betting racket operating from Begum Bazar and arrested a 59-year-old betting organizer. The accused, identified as Venugopal Sharma alias “Idly Venu,” was allegedly running illegal betting operations from his residence at Narayan Bhavan in Begum Bazar.

Acting on specific information, police conducted a raid on May 29 and found the accused actively coordinating betting activities through WhatsApp and other communication platforms. During questioning, Sharma reportedly confessed to organizing cricket and racecourse betting under the banner of “Godavari Associates” with the help of associates and intermediaries who collected wagers from punters.

Police said the accused attempted to destroy evidence by deleting WhatsApp conversations linked to the betting network. Investigators also found that he was a habitual offender with previous betting-related cases registered at Goshamahal and Charminar police stations.

A OnePlus Nord mobile phone and Rs. 3,000 in cash were seized during the operation. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway to identify other persons involved in the racket.
