Basara-Bhadrachalam Temple Circuit Development

In a historic and unprecedented move, the Telangana State Cabinet was convened at Medaram, one of the most revered tribal pilgrimage centres in the state. It was decided to develop Basara-Bhadrachalam as a temple circuit. As part of this vision, the government decided to develop a Basara–Bhadrachalam Temple Circuit along the Godavari river. This circuit will include Basara Saraswati Temple, several ancient and prominent temples located along the Godavari basin, and culminate at Bhadrachalam Sri Rama Temple.

The project will focus on restoration of ancient temples, improved pilgrim facilities, eco-tourism, forest-based tourism, parks, road connectivity, accommodation, sanitation, and other essential infrastructure. Similarly, early and comprehensive preparations for the Godavari Pushkaralu, scheduled to be held from July 27 to August 3, 2027. The Cabinet approved a long-term, well-planned approach to ensure that the Pushkaralu are conducted in a grand, organised, and devotee-friendly manner.

The Cabinet approved the appointment of a professional consultancy to prepare a detailed master plan. A Cabinet Sub-Committee will be constituted after January 26, and a comprehensive action plan will be finalised by March 31, ensuring time-bound execution.

Telangana Government. Extensive renovation and redevelopment works of the Sammakka–Saralamma Gaddelu and temple surroundings have been undertaken using durable construction methods to ensure longevity for centuries.

The renovated temple complex will be formally inaugurated on January 19 at 7:00 AM, in the presence of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, and other Cabinet colleagues. Around 19 acres of land has already been allocated for temple purposes, while an additional 21–22 acres will be transferred and registered in the name of Sammakka–Saralamma for future development.

To ensure year-round amenities for devotees, the Cabinet approved permanent water supply arrangements through the Godavari Lift Irrigation system, Ramappa water source, and pipeline connectivity up to Laknavaram, ensuring 365-day water availability for pilgrims in Jampanna Vaagu in Medaram. 

Major Cabinet decisions

■   The tenure of 116 Municipalities and 7 Municipal Corporations has ended, covering 2996 wards and divisions. Cabinet approves Urban Local Body elections soon.

■   Government land allocated to 14 Central and State Government institutions, including SBI, with market-value pricing.

■   Rs 2,787 crore approved for land acquisition for the Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion to enhance urban mobility.

■   Construction approved for a 9-kilometre flyover project in the Hyderabad IT corridor to alleviate traffic congestion.

■   A law college for Mahatma Gandhi University in Nalgonda has been approved.

■   New Potlapur Lift Irrigation Project in Mulugu district. Water from Ramappa lake to fill 5 villages and 30 tanks and ponds in Mulugu district, as well as provide irrigation to 7,500 acres of agricultural land at an cost of Rs. 143 crore.
