Minister for Revenue and Housing Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced that following the success of the Indiramma Housing project, which has significantly benefited rural communities, the State government is now turning its attention to housing development in urban areas as well.
In the initial phase, the government plans to construct Indiramma Houses in urban regions, particularly in the slums of Hyderabad, utilising a G+3 model tailored for low-income residents, according to Ponguleti.
During a review of the ongoing Indiramma Housing construction at the Secretariat on Friday, the Minister instructed officials to initiate steps for building these houses in urban areas, specifically in towns throughout Telangana. He noted that 16 slums in Hyderabad have been prioritised in the first phase, and plans are underway to extend this initiative to locations such as Warangal, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Karimnagar, and other towns.
The Minister announced that a total of 13,266 Indiramma Houses have been approved for the Chenchus, Kolam, Thoti, and Kondaredla tribes in the four ITDA regions of Bhadrachalam, Utnoor, Eturunagaram and Munnanur, who have been without adequate housing for many years. He added that 8,750 houses have already been allocated to 16 ST constituencies within Telangana, bringing the total number of Indiramma Houses approved for tribal communities across the state to 22,016. The Minister instructed officials to maintain ongoing oversight of the housing construction to ensure alignment with the government’s objectives and to be proactive in the allocation and building of homes.
