The family of a Gujarat student killed in Canada has alleged she was stabbed by a drug dealer after refusing to pay him money and has appealed for the swift return of her body to India.
Vidhi Kalpeshbhai Megha, 22, was killed in St Catharines on May 15. Her family said they were informed of her death over 10 days later.
Her father Kalpeshbhai Megha claimed a drug dealer attacked Vidhi with a knife after she refused his demand for money. The claim could not be independently verified.
The family urged the Canadian govt to expedite formalities and repatriate her body for the last rites. They expressed dissatisfaction over communication from local authorities. Gujarat Cabinet Minister Ramanbhai Solanki visited the family and said he had raised the matter with the CMO and PMO to facilitate the early return of her mortal remains.
