Pakistan has tightened security for around 26/11 mastermind and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed after his aide, Abu Qatal, was assassinated. The ISI has reviewed Saeed's security, and his residence is being converted into a sub-jail, confirming his heightened risk.
Journalist Azaz Syed confirmed past attacks on Saeed, stating he "remains in grave danger". Authorities have transformed his residence into a secure detention facility.
While Pakistan continues to claim that Saeed is serving a sentence for terror financing, reports suggest that he has rarely been held in a traditional prison. Instead, he has frequently been placed under house arrest in Lahore. However, he continues to operate openly in Pakistan.
Saeed, a UN and US-designated global terrorist, has been repeatedly targeted. A 2021 car bomb near his residence killed three. In 2023, LeT commanders Hanzla Adnan and Riyaz Ahmed were assassinated.
Second-in-command of LeT and a mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks was killed in December 2024. Saeed, fearing an attack, avoided Makki’s funeral. Intelligence sources indicate the ISI prevented Saeed's attendance and that wanted terrorists from PoK have been relocated, suggesting an increasing threat to terror operatives in Pakistan.
