The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council witnessed heated exchanges between ruling alliance members and the opposition over the alleged adulteration of ghee used in the sacred Tirumala Laddu prasadam, an issue that has sparked political controversy in the state.

During the discussion, State IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh strongly rebutted allegations raised by members of the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and defended his family’s devotion to Lord Venkateswara. Lokesh asserted that his family holds deep reverence for the deity and would never interfere in temple affairs for political gain. He also criticized opposition leaders for continuing to deny the allegations even after investigative agencies had reportedly identified irregularities.

The debate intensified after YSRCP MLC Thumati Madhava Rao made remarks linking Heritage Dairy to the controversy. Responding immediately, Lokesh cautioned members against making allegations in the House without credible evidence.

He explained that government tenders are awarded strictly according to procurement rules and that contracts are granted to the L1 bidder, the supplier quoting the lowest price. “It is basic knowledge that a bidder placed at L3 cannot secure the contract. Speaking without even this basic understanding is irresponsible,” Lokesh remarked, adding that a simple application of common sense would clarify the issue.

Lokesh also spoke emotionally about his family’s devotion to Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala, emphasizing that faith and temple traditions have always been treated with the utmost respect. “For the past ten years, on March 21, the birthday of my son Devansh, our family has been organizing annadanam at Tirumala,” he said.
