Metro India News | Hyderabad

Heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds swept across Hyderabad on Tuesday evening as the southwest monsoon advanced rapidly over Telangana, inundating roads, disrupting traffic and affecting normal life in several parts of the city. Areas including Kukatpally, KPHB Colony, Miyapur, Hitech City, Chandanagar, Musheerabad, Lakdikapul, Saroornagar, Koti, Abids, Narayanaguda, Himayatnagar, Bagh Lingampally and Ram Nagar witnessed intense showers.

Rainfall was also reported from Gachibowli, Madhapur, Jubilee Hills, Punjagutta, Ameerpet, Somajiguda, Lingampally and Patancheru, where traffic movement slowed considerably due to waterlogging and poor visibility. Several low-lying stretches were flooded, leading to traffic snarls during peak evening hours. In Amberpet, rainwater accumulated near Chen No. Chowrasta, Sri Ramana Chowrasta and Ali Cafe Junction, causing major congestion. Traffic police were deployed to clear bottlenecks and regulate vehicle movement.

Strong winds uprooted trees in parts of Ram Nagar VST Road and Hyderguda, temporarily blocking traffic. Power supply was disrupted in Musheerabad and a few other localities, while motorists struggled to navigate waterlogged roads across the city.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, has issued a heavy rainfall alert for the next 48 hours. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are also expected in several districts, including Hyderabad.

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers across Telangana over the next two days and issued a statewide thunderstorm alert from Thursday to Saturday, urging residents to remain cautious.
