Heavy rains drench Hyderabad, thunderstorms forecast till September 19

Hyderabad witnessed widespread rainfall on Sunday, as thunderstorms swept through several parts of the city and adjoining districts. According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, as of 6 p.m., the highest rainfall was recorded at Uppal (Kapra) with 38.3 mm, followed by 35.5 mm at Vivekanandapuram in Malkajgiri, 34.3 mm at Bandlaguda, and 32.5 mm at East Anandbagh. Areas like Nacharam, Habsiguda, and Kapra also saw more than 15 mm of rain, while many pockets reported between 5 mm and 15 mm.

In the evening, dangerous thunderstorms pounded Hyderabad’s core localities. Heavy downpour was reported in Shaikpet, Manikonda, Narsingi, Gachibowli, Nanakramguda, Raidurg, Tolichowki, Mehdipatnam, Khairtabad, Jubilee Hills, Serilingampally, Nampally, Abids, and Goshamahal. The storm system was expected to move towards Kukatpally, Ameerpet, Sanathnagar, and nearby areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph at isolated places in all districts of Telangana. Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated locations in Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, and Narayanpet. The forecast remains in place until the morning of September 15.

Furthermore, the IMD has predicted that thunderstorms will continue across Telangana until September 19 as monsoon activity persists. Authorities have urged residents to remain alert in low-lying and flood-prone areas, avoid unnecessary travel during peak showers, and follow safety advisories issued by local officials.
