Historian and Tourism expert MyNaa Swamy has called upon the London-based Book of World Records to officially recognize the historic Veerabhadra Swamy temple complex in Sri Sathya Sai district, citing its unparalleled architectural and cultural heritage. Addressing the media at the AP Tourism Guest House on Sunday, Swamy asserted that the centrally-protected, Vijayanagara-era monument possesses all the necessary credentials to achieve global acclaim. Swamy stated that he has already formally apprised local representatives of the record-listing organization about the temple's unique features.
The key highlights submitted for evaluation include a vast array of intricate stone carvings, which range from three-inch miniatures to colossal 12-foot monolithic statues. A major focal point of the submission is the ceiling of the temple's maha mandapam, which features a magnificent 25-by-18-foot mural painting of Lord Veerabhadra in a fierce form. This masterpiece is widely recognized as the largest single-figure mural painting in Asia,he added.
The historian drew the organization's attention to other remarkable features of the complex: The iconic "hanging pillar," an engineering marvel that remains detached from the floor; a spectacular 20-foot-high and 33-foot-long monolithic Nandi bull and a giant multi-hooded Nagalingam sculpted entirely from a single boulder. According to MyNaa Swamy, representatives from the Book of World Records have responded positively to his submission and are scheduled to visit the temple complex shortly to document the site firsthand.
Securing national and international laurels of this scale, he emphasized, would place Lepakshi prominently on the global tourism map and trigger a substantial increase in tourist footfall. He noted that this influx would serve to catalyze the local economy and generate sustainable employment opportunities for youth in the region.
