The Andhra Pradesh government has launched a year-long tourism promotion campaign titled “Holiday in Andhra Pradesh” with the aim of transforming the state into one of India’s premier tourism destinations and a globally recognised travel hub.
Announcing the initiative, Andhra Pradesh Tourism, Culture and Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh said the campaign would function not merely as a publicity programme but as a large-scale movement to strengthen domestic tourism, expand employment opportunities and showcase the state’s cultural heritage on national and international platforms.
The minister said the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to promote domestic tourism amid global economic uncertainties and rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. He noted that while millions of Indians travel abroad annually for leisure and destination weddings, India receives comparatively fewer foreign tourists, resulting in significant outflow of wealth.
Durgesh said Andhra Pradesh possesses immense tourism potential ranging from the beaches of Visakhapatnam and the spiritual centres of Tirupati and Srisailam to the scenic Araku Valley, Gandikota canyon, river tourism circuits and cultural heritage destinations across the Godavari and Krishna regions.
The government plans to develop integrated tourism circuits connecting spiritual centres, eco-tourism destinations, beach tourism, adventure tourism and heritage locations. Special emphasis is also being placed on destination weddings, MICE tourism, cruise tourism and experiential tourism.
Officials said the state has already approved 42 hotel projects over the past year, which are expected to add nearly 9,500 rooms to Andhra Pradesh’s hospitality sector. The government is also working on improving tourism infrastructure, transport connectivity, safety measures and hospitality services.
The campaign will involve extensive participation from hotels, travel operators, event planners, tourism stakeholders and social media influencers. Tourism authorities are also preparing special travel packages and promotional offers aimed at encouraging visitors to extend their stay within the state.
