Acting on a tip-off, the Medchal Special Operations Team (SOT) and Pet Basheerabad police busted an illegal surrogacy and egg trading racket, arresting a mother-son duo who allegedly exploited childless couples for money.
The key accused, Narreddula Laxmi Reddy (45), a former egg donor and surrogate from Chinthal, and her son N Narender Reddy (27), a Chemical Engineering graduate, reportedly lured poor women into surrogacy and egg donation with promises of cash. They housed the women in a multi-storey building in Chinthal and arranged the procedures.
During the raid, police seized Rs 6.47 lakh in cash, a laptop, bond papers, promissory notes, syringes, pregnancy medicines, hormone injections, case sheets from Hegde Hospital, five smartphones, and one keypad phone.
Investigations revealed Laxmi Reddy had a prior human trafficking case in Maharashtra in 2024. A new case has been registered under the Surrogacy Regulation Act, Assisted Reproductive Technology Act, and BNS Act. Authorities are now working to identify others linked to the racket.
