Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police arrested 43 individuals from 15 states in December 2025, uncovering 34 major cybercrime cases. The Cyber Crime Police Station, Hyderabad, received 266 complaints during the month, registering 144 FIRs, while Zonal Cyber Cells across India processed 2,195 petitions, leading to 80 FIRs and 15 arrests. Victims were refunded Rs. 72.36 lakh, and operations by Hyderabad police recovered Rs. 1.33 crore.
The arrested individuals were linked to 119 cases nationwide, with bank transactions totaling around Rs. 73 crore. State-wise cases included Telangana – 19, Andhra Pradesh – 14, Maharashtra – 14, Karnataka – 15, Rajasthan – 12, Gujarat – 7, Tamil Nadu – 7, Delhi – 6, Uttar Pradesh – 5, Kerala – 3, West Bengal – 2, Bihar – 2, Goa – 2, Haryana – 2, Odisha – 2, Punjab – 1, Chhattisgarh – 1, and Madhya Pradesh – 2.
Seized items included 23 mobile phones, one laptop, nine cheque books, two bank passbooks, 16 debit cards, three rubber stamps, three QR code scanners, three PAN cards, and a game play card.
Two major cases revealed the tactics used by cyber fraudsters. In one, a 75-year-old woman was tricked by impersonators of government and telecom officials who threatened her husband, forcing her to transfer Rs. 1.95 crore. Three accused from Bhavnagar, Gujarat, were arrested, and two mobile phones were recovered. In another case, an elderly man was targeted with WhatsApp calls and forged court notices claiming his involvement in a human trafficking scam. Threatened and intimidated, he transferred Rs. 59 lakh to the fraudsters. Two accused from East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, were arrested, with multiple phones, debit cards, and PAN cards seized.
The Cyber Crime Police advised the public to stay vigilant against scams involving impersonation, fake investments, phishing links, and malicious APK files. Citizens are urged to verify communications through official channels, avoid transferring money to unknown sources, and report cyber fraud immediately through the 1930 helpline or www.cybercrime.gov.in.
