Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy has expressed serious concern over the pace of infrastructure development in Hyderabad. He observed that with rapid population growth the city is turning into a concrete jungle and expanding far beyond expectations. While Hyderabad is progressing industrially, in IT and commercial sectors, the Union Minister said successive State governments have failed to strengthen basic civic infrastructure.

Addressing the media after the Basti Baata program in Secunderabad Assembly on Friday, he alleged that issues such as drinking water, roads, drainage and slum development remain unresolved despite a decade of governance. He pointed out that Hyderabad contributes nearly seventy percent of Telangana revenue, yet GHMC contractors are staging protests over pending payments and even streetlights are not being replaced due to lack of budget. He questioned how a revenue generating city could face such shortages.

On urban flooding, he said even moderate rainfall turns roads into streams and accused the State of failing to adopt technology based solutions for drainage desilting and water management. He also raised concern over government school buildings that are reportedly in poor condition.

Regarding Hyderabad Metro expansion, the Union Minister clarified that the Centre requires a proper Detailed Project Report before granting approval. He stated that without DPR from the State government, the Union Cabinet cannot sanction funds. He dismissed allegations that the Centre is delaying the project and said financial, operational and maintenance details must be clearly defined.

Highlighting railway projects, he said Secunderabad Railway Station is being redeveloped at a cost of about 720 crore rupees and Nampally station at around 350 crore rupees. He added that MMTS Phase Two works were initiated with central support of nearly 1100 crore rupees. Elevated railway corridors connecting Hyderabad to Chennai, Bengaluru and Pune are also planned with a projected investment of 1.5 lakh crore rupees.

On Musi rejuvenation, he stated that development should not displace long time residents. He reiterated that the Centre has allocated fifty percent funds for the Regional Ring Road while land acquisition remains pending with the State.

Kishan Reddy stated that he and Prime Minister Narendra Modi remain committed to Hyderabad’s development and said BJP is working with the goal of forming government in Telangana.
