A convention of Backward Class (BC) Muslim communities is set to be held on June 16 at Ravindra Bharathi to discuss long-standing issues affecting BC Muslims in Telangana, including caste certificate verification, political representation, educational opportunities and access to welfare benefits. The convention is being organized under the leadership of All India BSP National Coordinator Dr. J. Poornachandra Rao, retired IPS officer and former Director General of Police, BC Times Editor Sangem Suryarao and retired IFS officer M.A. Waheed.
Organizers said the gathering aims to bring attention to the socio-economic challenges faced by BC Muslim communities and advocate for measures that ensure their inclusion in governance and development. Several BC Muslim communities, including Dudekulas, Pinjaris, Rangrez, Fakirs, Darveshes, Hajams, Attar Shaikhs, small traders, scrap dealers, traditional performers, artisans and daily wage workers continue to depend on hereditary occupations and small-scale livelihoods. They noted that many of these traditional professions which once played an important role in rural and urban economies have weakened over time due to changing economic conditions and declining demand.
One of the key concerns expected to be discussed at the convention is the issue of caste certificates. Representatives of BC Muslim organizations claim that many eligible individuals are facing difficulties in obtaining BC caste certificates from revenue authorities. They allege that applicants are often asked to submit additional documentation and are forced to make repeated visits to government offices, leading to delays that affect access to educational admissions, employment opportunities, reservations, and welfare schemes.
The convention aims to initiate a statewide dialogue on these various concerns and formulate recommendations that can be presented to the government. Organizers said the meeting will provide a platform for community leaders, public representatives, intellectuals, youth, women and social activists from across Telangana to discuss solutions and policy interventions.
