In a surprising turn during India's "Operation Sindoor" diplomatic outreach in New York, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor faced an unexpected questioner: his own son, journalist Ishan Tharoor.

The exchange took place at the Council of Foreign Relations, part of India's global campaign to highlight the recent Pahalgam terror attack. As the senior Tharoor addressed the media, he playfully acknowledged his son's presence.  Ishan, a foreign affairs columnist for The Washington Post, formally introduced himself, eliciting laughter by saying he was "mostly to say `hi."

Ishan then asked if any Western officials had requested proof of Pakistan's involvement in the Pahalgam attack. Shashi Tharoor, smiling, quipped, “I didn’t plant it, I promise you.” He then clarified that no one had doubted India's claims or asked for evidence.

Tharoor explained to the audience that India’s diplomatic messaging was backed by past experience and a clear pattern of events. “There were three particular reasons I want to draw your attention to all of you. The first is that we’ve had a 37-year pattern of repeated terror attacks from Pakistan, accompanied by repeated denials,” he said.

He referred to the 2011 killing of Osama Bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan. “Americans haven’t forgotten that Pakistan didn’t know, allegedly, where Osama bin Laden was until he was found in a Pakistani safe house right next to an army camp in a cantonment city. That’s Pakistan.”
