Caroline Darian, the daughter of Gisèle Pelicot who sustained years of horrific sexual abuse by her then-husband and other men, has described how she’s certain her father drugged her and strongly suspects she was raped too.
In an interview with the BBC, Darian, 46, described the mental “burden” of being the daughter of both victim and perpetrator, as she expressed her strong desire for her father to die in prison. A horrifying, monthslong mass rape and drugging trial that shook France to its core concluded last month. Dominique Pelicot, 72, and 49 others were found guilty of the rape or sexual assault of his former wife.
Darian described receiving A fateful phone call from her mother, one evening in November 2020, in which Gisèle informed her what her father had done, and it changed her life. "At that moment, I lost what was a normal life," CNN quoted Darian saying.
She said she was shown two photos police found on her father's laptop. At first, she did not recognise the woman lying on a bed in a T-shirt and underwear. At first, she did not recognise herself.
Now, she is convinced that her father abused and raped her too - something he has always denied. CNN quoted her saying, "He knew perfectly well what he did, and he's not sick," she said. "He is a dangerous man. There is no way he can get out. No way." Darian added, “I'll never call him dad again.” CNN quoted.
