Immediate relief for Handloom sector sought

Representatives of the Telangana Regional Padmashali Association and the All India Padmashali Associations submitted a memorandum to Agriculture and Handlooms & Textiles Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and Special Chief Secretary Sabyasachi Ghosh, urging the government to address long pending issues affecting handloom workers and cooperative societies.

The delegation sought immediate release of pending Telangana Nethanna Podupu (Thrift Fund) contributions for 14 months, sanction of the second installment of the Nethanna Bharosa scheme, production programmes for 2026 and 2027, settlement of insurance claims, waiver of cooperative societies' cash credit liabilities, procurement of unsold stock, and clearance of pending bills worth about ₹500 crore to ₹600 crore.

Other demands included pensions for geo-tagged weavers above 50 years of age, higher Mudra loan subsidy, GST exemption on handloom products, restoration of the 20 percent rebate scheme, settlement of Pavala Vaddi interest subsidy dues, and issuance of identity cards to eligible weavers. Minister Tummala assured the delegation that the issues would be examined and necessary action taken at the earliest.
