India’s Egg Lag: 103 Eggs in 2024 falls short of global norms

India’s per capita egg consumption of just 103 eggs in 2024, significantly below global averages, sparked urgent calls for awareness at the World Egg Day 2025 celebration held in Hyderabad. Hosted by Poultry India, IPEMA, and NECC, the event embraced the theme “Protein Awareness: Eggs for Nutrition & Health,” highlighting eggs as a vital, affordable source of high-quality protein, vitamins, and minerals for all ages.

Distinguished guests, including K.G. Anand (VHL Group), Dr. Uday (Dean, Rajendranagar), R.P. Naidu (APEDA), Balu Naik (Deputy Director-FSSAI), Dr. Ravinder Reddy (Secretary-TPBA), P. Chakradhar Rao (Founder President IPEMA), Chitturi Suresh Rayudu (President-IEC), Uday Singh Bayas (President IPEMA-Poultry India), Shushruta Kumar (Budding Equestrian), and Dr. Bala Swamy (Advisor NECC), stressed eggs’ role in combating protein deficiency and supporting health.

Uday Singh Bayas emphasized the need for campaigns to boost egg consumption to bridge nutritional gaps. IPEMA announced the 17th Poultry India Expo 2025, set for November 26–28 at HITEX, Hyderabad, featuring 500+ exhibitors from 50 countries. A Knowledge Day on November 25 at Novotel Hyderabad will cover poultry innovations and careers.
