Indira Mahila Shakti Canteen launched at GHMC HQ

In a major initiative to support women’s self-reliance, the Indira Mahila Shakti Canteen was inaugurated at the GHMC headquarters by five women from the ‘Sneha self-help group’ in Jubilee Hills.

The canteen was set up with financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh under the Indira Mahila Shakti scheme. Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi and Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha Shoban Reddy officially launched the facility, emphasizing its role in providing employment opportunities for women while offering quality and affordable meals to the public.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor highlighted that the state government is committed to women’s empowerment through various welfare initiatives. She stated that self-help groups are being encouraged to establish businesses, ensuring financial stability and independence for women. The Indira Mahila Shakti scheme, she noted, plays a crucial role in creating sustainable livelihoods.

Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha Shoban Reddy urged women to take full advantage of government schemes to achieve economic growth.  She stressed the importance of maintaining high standards of food quality at the canteen while making meals affordable for GHMC employees and visitors. The event was attended by UCD Additional Commissioner Chandrakant Reddy, Deputy Commissioner Prashanti, and members of the self-help group, among others.
