Is Trump firing Kash Patel?

05-04-2026 12:00:00 AM

Washington: The Trump administration is discussing the possible departure of several senior officials, including FBI Director Kash Patel.

According to a report by The Atlantic, people familiar with White House planning have told the magazine that discussions are underway about whether certain top officials may leave their posts.

They include FBI Director Kash Patel, Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll and Labour Secretary Lori Chavez‑DeRemer. The Atlantic’s sources said the conversations are happening inside the GOP administration, but no final decisions have been made by US President Donald Trump.

The report does not say any of the officials have actually been fired or that any formal resignation has been submitted. It only says their names are being discussed by senior figures in the White House.

Recently, Attorney General Pam Bondi was removed, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was also replaced.

Hegseth fires Army chief

Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth (R) as ousted the Army’s top uniformed officer and two other generals, the Pentagon said without giving a reason for the departures.

General Randy George (L) “will be retiring from his position as the 41st Chief of Staff of the Army effective immediately,” said Sean Parnell, the Pentagon's top spokesman.

George has held the post of Army chief of staff, which typically runs for four years, since August 2023 under the Biden administration.

The ouster, reported earlier by CBS News, is just the latest of more than a dozen firings of top generals and admirals by Hegseth since he took office last year.

Hegseth has also ousted Army General David Hodne and Army Major General William Green.
