Jailed gangster Uzair Baloch’s brother shot in Pak’s Karachi

Karachi: Zubair Baloch, brother of jailed gangster Uzair Baloch, the former chief of the disbanded People’s Aman Committee, was critically injured after unidentified bike-borne assailants op­ened fire on him in Karachi’s Lyari on Thursday evening.

Police said Zubair, 40, was sitting outside his house in Singu Lane when the attackers shot him multiple times before fleeing. He sustained chest and abdomen injuries and underwent surgery. Two passersby were also injured.

Police said they were investigating the shooting from multiple angles, including gang rivalry and personal enmity. Zubair was arrested in seven criminal cases in 2012 and released in January 2025.

Residents fear the attack could signal a resurgence of Lyari’s gang violence, amid reports some gangsters who fled abroad have recently retu­rned to Pakistan. —Agencies
