‘Job calendar turned into a joke’: YS Sharmila launches attack on AP Govt

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y. S. Sharmila on Tuesday launched a sharp and sustained attack on the ruling coalition government, accusing it of grossly betraying unemployed youth by failing to deliver on its promise of issuing an annual job calendar. Despite nearly two years in power, the government has not honoured its assurance of releasing a job calendar every January 1, she said, calling it a “dagaa calendar” that cheats youth and a “joke calendar” that mocks public promises.

Taking to social media platform X, Sharmila said that while the previous YSRCP government cheated youth along with false hopes for five years in the name of a job calendar, the present coalition government has gone a step further by toying with hopes of job aspirants. She questioned what happened to the job calendar promised on January 1, 2025, and said it was shameful that even in the second year, the government had not uttered a word about it.

Sharmila alleged that the coalition government came to power by promising jobs to unemployed youth, securing massive electoral support, only to now toy with their lives and futures. She said this conduct was unacceptable and politically unethical. “Years are changing, governments are changing, but the job calendar remains missing,” she remarked.

Expressing deep concern, the APCC chief said nearly 50 lakh unemployed youth across Andhra Pradesh are anxiously waiting for clarity on recruitment notifications. Many aspirants, she said, have sold family assets and paid hefty fees to coaching centres in the hope of government jobs, but the continued silence from the government has pushed them into distress and uncertainty.

Sharmila pointed out that an estimated two lakh government posts across various departments are lying vacant in the State. “Why is the government deliberately neglecting these vacancies? What stops it from filling posts that are critical for governance and public services?” she asked. She accused the ruling coalition of lacking both intent and accountability when it comes to employment generation.
