A sub-inspector in Karimnagar’s Two Towns, Chandrashekhar, reportedly died by suicide on Saturday at his mother-in-law’s residence in Seethampeta village, Jammikunta mandal.
The tragedy comes just four days after the death of his wife, Divya, who had also taken her life. Reports suggest that Chandrashekhar was overwhelmed by grief over his wife’s death, which was further complicated by growing suspicions surrounding the circumstances of her suicide. His body was later taken to Jammikunta hospital.
Divya, a Seethampeta resident, married Chandrashekhar in 2016. On March 17, she consumed oleander flowers and leaves, reportedly due to abdominal pain, and informed her parents about her actions. Despite Chandrashekhar rushing her to a hospital in Hyderabad, she passed away during treatment. Following her death, Divya’s relatives accused Chandrashekhar of responsibility for her suicide, confronting him and protesting during her funeral, which was conducted by her parents.
Chandrashekhar visited his in-laws’ home on Saturday for the fifth-day ritual. When he failed to come out of his room, his family grew concerned. On checking, they found him deceased by hanging. He was immediately taken to a private hospital in Jammikunta, where doctors confirmed his death.
Authorities are investigating the case, with preliminary reports pointing to grief as the primary factor in the sub-inspector’s decision to end his life, compounding the grief already faced by the family after Divya’s suicide.
