Kishan Reddy slams ‘Misconceptions’

14-04-2026 12:00:00 AM

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy strongly refuted what he described as “misconceptions” being created around the issues of delimitation and women’s reservation. He stated that Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was making comments due to a lack of proper understanding of these constitutional matters.

He was speaking to the media after the inauguration of the 7th tranche of Critical Mineral Blocks auction and the launch of the Exploration License initiative held at HITEX International Convention Centre, Madhapur.

Kishan Reddy emphasized that the Women’s Reservation Bill is a historic and transformative decision aimed at enhancing the dignity and representation of women across the country. The legislation provides for 33% reservation for women in legislative bodies and should not be viewed through a political lens, he asserted.

Highlighting the long-standing delay in implementing women’s reservation, he noted that the Congress party had kept the issue pending for decades. In contrast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a bold and decisive step in ensuring its passage, demonstrating the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment.

The Union Minister called upon all political parties, including the Congress, to rise above political considerations and extend their support to the bill, keeping in mind the aspirations and dignity of nearly 700 million women in India.

Addressing concerns regarding delimitation, Kishan Reddy clarified that claims of injustice to South India are unfounded. He reiterated that the Modi government is committed to ensuring equitable treatment for all states and regions in the country.

He further explained that women’s reservation and delimitation are interconnected constitutional processes. Delimitation is a necessary exercise that follows due constitutional procedure and requires time, as it involves consultations with all states and stakeholders.

The Union Minister urged political leaders and stakeholders to refrain from spreading misinformation and instead focus on providing accurate information to the public, thereby strengthening democratic values and public trust.
