The political atmosphere in Telangana intensified on Thursday after the Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the phone tapping case, issued notices to former Chief Minister and BRS supremo K. Chandrashekar Rao. SIT officials visited KCR’s Nandinagar residence and, finding him unavailable, handed over notices under Section 160 of the CrPC to his staff. The authorities have summoned the BRS chief for questioning regarding the case at 3:00 PM on Friday, prompting an emergency meeting by SIT officials to finalize the line of questioning and security logistics.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi leadership, led by Working President K.T. Rama Rao, reacted sharply to the development, terming the notices a "blatant act of political vendetta." The party asserted that KCR is a visionary leader who risked his life to achieve statehood and developed Telangana for a decade through revolutionary schemes like Mission Bhagiratha, Rythu Bandhu, and Dalit Bandhu.
BRS leaders accused the Congress government of gross incompetence and failing to implement electoral promises within a year of assuming power. "To cover up their administrative failures and divert public attention, the government is resorting to these malicious tactics. This is not an investigation; it is pure revenge," the party statement read, warning that the people of Telangana would not tolerate insults to the leader who delivered statehood.
Senior BRS leader and former Minister T. Harish Rao issued a scathing condemnation of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, stating that "touching KCR is tantamount to touching the self-respect of Telangana." Describing KCR as the "Father of the Telangana Nation," Rao likened the attempt to tarnish the former CM’s image to "spitting at the sun."
Harish Rao alleged that the notices were a calculated conspiracy to divert public attention from the "Singareni coal scam" and the government's growing unpopularity. He termed the move as "cheap and bankrupt politics" aimed at gaining an advantage in the upcoming municipal elections. "Power is not permanent, and arrogance will not last. The entire Telangana society stands with KCR," Harish Rao declared, warning that the ruling party would face a backlash from the public for these harassment tactics.
