BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao has strongly objected to the Telangana government’s alleged attempt to take over 50 acres of land belonging to Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in Hyderabad. He questioned whether the Congress leadership, particularly Rahul Gandhi, is even aware of what its government is doing in the state and asked if this reflects the party’s claimed commitment to education and minority welfare.
KTR recalled the earlier controversy at Hyderabad Central University, where large tracts of green cover were cleared using bulldozers, leading to the destruction of wildlife and inviting nationwide criticism. He said the Congress government had failed to learn from that episode and was now targeting MANUU, a premier central university, in a similar manner. According to him, the land in question was earmarked for academic blocks, hostels, and future courses, and taking it away would directly harm the aspirations of thousands of students.
Accusing the Chief Minister of acting out of real estate greed, KTR said it was shameful for a government to encroach upon land meant for educational institutions. He asserted that a responsible administration should focus on strengthening universities and expanding opportunities for students, not weakening institutions for commercial interests. Education, he said, cannot be treated as a political tool, as it shapes the nation’s future.
The BRS leader made it clear that his party would not remain silent on the issue. He announced that BRS would stand firmly with MANUU students and oppose what he termed as an unjust decision. If the government fails to withdraw its move, KTR warned that the party would launch a sustained fight both on the ground and through legal means. Protecting students’ interests, he said, would remain a top priority for BRS.
