Telangana on Wednesday paid rich tributes to Professor Kothapalli Jayashankar, the ideologue of the Telangana movement and often referred to as the "Father of Telangana," on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
Telangana State Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar and Legislative Secretary Dr. V. Narasimha Charyulu paid their respects by laying floral tributes at his portrait in the Assembly.
On the occasion, Gutha Sukhender Reddy said, "Professor Jayashankar was a remarkable individual who dedicated his life to the creation of Telangana. He highlighted that Jayashankar made significant sacrifices for this cause, famously asserting that our water and our jobs belong to us."
He also noted that Jayashankar serves as an inspiration for today’s youth, and the Telangana government also has acknowledged his contributions by naming the Bhupalpalli district and the Agricultural University in his honuor.
Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar described the late Acharya Jayashankar as an extraordinary individual who devoted his life to the realisation of Telangana State, which he viewed as his hope and essence.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, in his statement, recognised Professor Jayashankar as a remarkable visionary who committed himself to the principle of self-determination for Telangana.
"Telangana was his passion, focus, and ambition. He inspired the movement within the hearts of the people and provided evidence of how the region and its residents were overlooked in united Andhra Pradesh," he remarked.
Revanth Reddy reaffirmed the Congress government's dedication to honouring Jayashankar's vision and striving to make his dream for Telangana a reality.
TPCC President and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud paid tribute in a statement, recalling Jayashankar's crucial contributions to the fight for statehood.
Meanwhile, Ministers from Telangana, along with former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao and BRS leaders such as KT Rama Rao, Harish Rao, and Kavitha, paid their respects, recalling Jayashankar’s vision and dedication towards the formation of Telangana State.
