In a significant political development, Nara Lokesh formally assumed charge as the National Working President of the Telugu Desam Party, marking a calibrated transition in the party’s leadership structure. The oath of office was administered by party supremo and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the TDP central office in Mangalagiri, in the presence of senior leaders, ministers, MPs, MLAs, and grassroots cadre.

The ceremony was not merely symbolic but reflective of a broader organisational reset within the TDP. Alongside Lokesh, members of the Politburo, national, and state committees were also sworn in, underscoring a comprehensive restructuring aimed at strengthening the party from the grassroots to the top leadership. Notably, the inclusion of mandal- and cluster-level leaders in the Politburo, an unprecedented move, signals a conscious attempt to democratise internal power structures and reward grassroots commitment.

Lokesh’s elevation significantly enhances his dual role in both governance and party affairs. Seen as a key architect of the party’s recent organisational revival, particularly during its years in opposition, he is now entrusted with consolidating TDP’s base and expanding its political footprint. His responsibilities are expected to include cadre mobilisation, policy communication, and aligning party machinery with governance priorities.

Addressing the gathering, Chandrababu Naidu praised Lokesh’s political evolution and organisational capabilities. He noted that Lokesh had played a pivotal role in energising party workers during challenging phases and continues to drive initiatives ranging from cadre welfare to structured training programmes. “This is not a position, but a responsibility,” Naidu remarked, emphasising performance over entitlement.

The formation of the new executive body also reflects attention to social representation, with appointments made keeping in mind caste and community balance, an essential factor in Andhra Pradesh’s electoral politics.
