Lung Cancer remains one of the deadliest cancers globally

Lung cancer remains one of the deadliest cancers globally. It often goes undetected until advanced stages, making early detection crucial for survival.

There are two main types: Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) and Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC). While smoking is the primary cause, other risk factors include secondhand smoke, air pollution, radon, asbestos exposure, and family history. Importantly, non-smokers are also at risk.

Symptoms such as a persistent cough, coughing blood, chest pain, shortness of breath, or unexplained weight loss should never be ignored. Early screening, especially for high-risk individuals (like smokers aged 55–80), can save lives.

Treatment options include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and palliative care. The right treatment depends on the type, stage, and patient’s health. Clinical trials may also offer new hope.

Prevention starts with quitting smoking, avoiding secondhand smoke, eating healthy, staying active, and using protective gear at work.

This World Lung Cancer Day, let’s raise awareness, break the stigma, and support survivors. Encourage regular check-ups and spread the message that lung cancer can affect anyone — early action makes all the difference.
