In a major crackdown on food adulteration, Mangalhat Police, along with GHMC officials and the Food Adulteration team, seized around 300 kilograms of decomposed goat and sheep offal from a local shop. The raid, conducted on March 10, 2026, uncovered unhygienic storage practices and fraudulent sale of stale meat as fresh.
The accused, Mohammed Afroz, 41, running the business under the name “A to Z Sheep & Goat Offals” at RK Pet, Chisti Chaman Dargah, Mangalhat, was apprehended. Afroz reportedly procured goat and sheep meat in bulk from Karnataka, Delhi, and Jammu & Kashmir at low prices. He then stored the meat for long periods in deep freezers and plastic tubs filled with stagnant water to mask decomposition and suppress foul odor. The meat was sold to unsuspecting customers with false claims of freshness and hygiene.
Afroz has a prior record of a similar offence, for which he was fined by GHMC authorities. Following the raid, the seized meat was safely disposed of by GHMC officials according to prescribed procedures.
A case has been registered under Cr.no: 102/2026 U/s 125, 271, 318(2) BNS, and investigation is ongoing. Authorities have appealed to the public to avoid purchasing meat from unauthorized or unhygienic sources and report any suspicious activity to the police.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of DCP Golconda Zone G. Chandra Mohan and ACP Kulsumpura Division, led by SHO S. Raghvendra, SI T. Vinod, SI S. Shruthi, and staff of Mangalhat Police Station.
