A delegation led by MRPS (Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi) leader Manda Krishna Madiga met Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at his residence on Tuesday to discuss the long-standing issue of classification of Scheduled Caste (SC) sub-castes and other related concerns.
During the meeting, Manda Krishna praised the Chief Minister’s commitment to fulfilling the promise of SC categorisation and expressed his support for the government’s efforts. He assured Revanth Reddy of MRPS’s backing, acknowledging his dedication to addressing the grievances of the Madiga community and other SC sub-castes.
The MRPS leader brought to the CM’s attention the challenges involved in the classification process, emphasizing the need for a structured and legally sound approach. In response, Revanth Reddy reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring justice for the Madiga community and SC sub-castes, free from political considerations.
The Chief Minister briefed the delegation on the steps taken by the Telangana government, including discussion in the Assembly on SC categorization, constitution of a Cabinet Sub-committee and Judicial Commission to expedite the process and approval of the Commission’s report in the Assembly to avoid legal complications.
Revanth Reddy further suggested that any concerns or objections regarding the classification process be brought to the notice of the Cabinet Sub-committee and Judicial Commission for resolution. The delegation recalled the Chief Minister’s past advocacy for SC sub-caste classification as an opposition MLA and appreciated his continued commitment to the cause.
Classify SCs into groups based on socio-economic conditions: MRPS Earlier the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) submitted a representation to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, urging immediate steps for the categorization of Scheduled Castes (SC) to ensure social justice.
MRPS President Manda Krishna Madiga emphasized the necessity of classifying SCs into different groups (Group 1, 2, 3, and 4) based on their socio-economic conditions, as seen in other states. He pointed out that while Madigas and similar communities constitute 62% of the SC population, they receive only 29% of benefits. He stressed the need for equitable distribution of reservations in education, employment, and governance.
The key demands presented by MRPS include the immediate implementation of SC categorization, a thorough review of existing reservation policies, and ensuring fair representation of marginalized SC groups in education, employment, and governance. The organization also stressed the need for an equitable distribution of SC reservation benefits across all sectors. MRPS stressed on its commitment to fighting for a fair and just reservation system that benefits all sections of the Scheduled Castes.
