The Andhra Pradesh government has initiated a major restoration and development programme for the historic Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple at Mangalagiri, one of the most revered Vaishnavite pilgrimage centres in the state. The project aims to preserve the temple’s heritage structures while enhancing facilities for devotees. Education, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh on Thursday reviewed the proposed renovation and development plans during a meeting with officials at his Undavalli residence.

Temple authorities and engineering officials presented detailed proposals through a PowerPoint presentation, outlining the restoration works and infrastructure upgrades planned for the shrine. During the review, Lokesh approved the restoration of the historic Sri Krishnadevaraya Mandapam, a structure of significant architectural and cultural importance within the temple complex. He also gave the green signal for the reconstruction of the Yagashala and Ghanta Mandapam, along with the construction of a new Vahana Shala for temple vehicles.

The minister directed officials to ensure that all renovation and development works are carried out strictly in accordance with temple traditions and architectural heritage. He also suggested several improvements to infrastructure and amenities outside the temple premises to enhance the overall experience for pilgrims visiting the shrine. Stressing the importance of the project, Lokesh told officials that opportunities to undertake such large-scale temple development works come only once in a lifetime and should be executed with meticulous planning. He instructed the authorities to ensure that the works are completed in a manner that satisfies devotees while preserving the temple’s spiritual and historical significance.

The government plans to undertake the restoration and development works at an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore. The foundation stone for the project will be laid on July 3, marking the formal commencement of the renovation programme.
