MEPMA initiates creating employment opportunities

Mission Director of Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Muncipal Areas(MEPMA)  N Tej Bharath on Wednesday initiated taking steps to create employment opportunities to MEPMA self-help group (SHG)  and their family members in tourism sector. This was done on the instructions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Minister for Municipal and Urban Development P Narayana and also in view of the importance given to the development of tourism by the State Government.

SHG members were trained in MEPMA headquarters in the professions of tour guide, facilitator, housekeeping, sanitation (sanitation), cleaning & maintenance, running canteens, photography, front office management, food and beverage, services, street food vendor, etc.

The Director of MEPMA Mission said that MEPMA is contributing to the economic development of the community members in all the aforementioned sectors in the tourism areas by providing bank loans to SHG members and also by providing handholding support to the interested ones for employment in this tourism sector.

The Mission Director informed that it expects to provide employment to 4 thousand community members in the tourism sector in the financial year 2025-26. As part of this, SHG members, MEPMA AMD N Venkateswara Rao, SMC T Ravi Kumar and other top officials from tourism department of Andhra Pradesh government participated in the event.
