Lady Gaga's visit to Brazil is part of her global tour promoting her latest album, ‘Mayhem.’
A staggering crowd, estimated at over two million, transformed Rio de Janeiro's iconic Copacabana beach into a vibrant spectacle on Saturday as pop sensation Lady Gaga delivered a colossal free concert.
Devoted fans, affectionately known as "Little Monsters," began queuing early Saturday morning, eager to secure prime viewing spots for the highly anticipated show, which was funded by local authorities. Organizers reported an estimated 2.1 million attendees.
One enthusiastic fan named Lucas shared with CNN his belief that Gaga's performance drew an even larger audience than Madonna's concert on the same famed beachfront a year prior. "I feel the city is more crowded this time, but I’m very excited," the filmmaker remarked.
In a testament to their devotion, many fans donned elaborate Gaga-inspired costumes, referencing iconic hits such as "Poker Face," "Born This Way," and "Bad Romance."
Lady Gaga's visit to Brazil is part of her global tour promoting her latest album, "Mayhem." The genre-bending singer and actress, 39, was in Mexico City just last week for two concerts before arriving in Rio.
Adding to the excitement, the night before the main event, Lady Gaga surprised beachgoers with an impromptu rehearsal performance on the Copacabana stage. "I’ve missed you so much," she exclaimed amidst enthusiastic applause, marking her first performance in Brazil since 2012. "I know that this is not the first show here, I know this is just a rehearsal, it feels like it’s the real show," she added before launching into her hit song "Alejandro."
As she made her way to the stage on Saturday night, Abril, a tourist from Argentina, conveyed the electric atmosphere to CNN Brazil. "The truth is that the energy here in Copacabana is incredible," Abril said. "Rio is incredible and it always lends itself to parties and magical moments."
