In a significant step toward improving electricity services in rural areas, Andhra Pradesh State Energy Minister Gottipati Ravikumar formally launched the 'Currentolla Janabata' program by the Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) on Monday. The initiative aims to address consumer grievances swiftly and enhance the reliability of power supply across the southern region of the state.
The launch coincided with the inauguration of a newly constructed 33/11 KV substation in Mogarala village, Pakala mandal, Tirupati district. Speaking on the occasion, the minister highlighted that the 'Currentolla Janabata' program is an innovative effort designed for the prompt resolution of electricity-related issues faced by consumers in the APSPDCL jurisdiction.
He emphasized that the program would enable users to report and resolve their power problems in real-time, fostering better engagement between the utility and its customers. As part of this program, electricity department officials and staff will conduct thorough inspections of 11 KV, low-tension (LT), and agricultural power lines in villages under the distribution company's purview.
Key activities include rectifying sagging wires, replacing tilted power poles, elevating transformer platforms where necessary, installing fences around transformers, and implementing preventive measures in schools and anganwadi centers to avoid electrical accidents. The minister also stressed the importance of raising awareness about rooftop solar systems in rural areas to promote sustainable energy practices.
During the event, he interacted with residents of Krishnapuram village, inquiring about their power consumption patterns, bill payments, and overall service quality to gather firsthand feedback. Minister Ravikumar reiterated that providing seamless electricity for agriculture, industries, and households is a primary objective of the coalition government. He announced that the current government has reduced electricity charges by 13 paise per unit through a 'true down' mechanism, offering relief to consumers.
