Vijayawada witnessed a significant stride in the promotion of sports on Thursday as Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy launched a new sports app "kreeda" aimed at supporting athletes and promoting sports across the state.
Speaking at the event, Minister Ramprasad Reddy revealed that Andhra Pradesh is paving the way for an athlete-centric future through a comprehensive sports policy. “Unlike any other state, our Chief Minister has envisioned a policy that will serve as a guidepost for future generations. This policy integrates all necessary elements, including incentives, employment opportunities, and pathways for national and international recognition,” he said.
The minister further elaborated on plans to organize national-level sports events, with Amaravati at the center of the action. “By 2027, we aim to host national sports competitions in Amaravati, setting a benchmark for the entire country,” he added.
Minister Reddy took the opportunity to criticize the previous government for its alleged neglect of the sports sector. “Under the previous government, the state lacked a dedicated sports department. Athletes and sports associations faced immense challenges and humiliation during that period. The past five years brought nothing but tears to everyone in the sports fraternity,” he remarked.
In contrast, the current coalition government, within just six months, has introduced both a sports policy and a dedicated sports app, which is set to revolutionize how sports are managed and supported in the state.
The minister also underscored efforts to integrate sports into the education system. By aligning education and sports departments, the government is ensuring opportunities for students from elementary schools to reach the national level. “This initiative will encourage rural school students to dream big and compete on larger platforms. We’re creating a system where talent at all levels is nurtured and supported,” he said.
The minister highlighted the growing menace of fake certificates in the sports sector and assured that the government is leveraging technology to address such issues. “Our state is entering a new era of technological advancements. This app and the sports policy are the first steps in ensuring transparency and efficiency in identifying and promoting genuine talent,” he stated.
Minister Ramprasad Reddy concluded on an optimistic note, emphasizing the government’s dedication to building a robust sports infrastructure. “Under the dynamic leadership of our Chief Minister, we are committed to creating a better future for the next generation of athletes. This is just the beginning of our journey toward excellence,” he affirmed.
