An unexpected and emotional moment unfolded during the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet meeting on Monday when Transport and Sports Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy was visibly moved to tears amid discussions on the proposed reorganisation of district headquarters in Annamayya district.

The incident occurred when the Cabinet took up deliberations on a proposal to shift the Annamayya district headquarters from Rayachoti to Madanapalle. As the issue was raised, Ramprasad Reddy, who represents the Rayachoti Assembly constituency, became overwhelmed with emotion, expressing deep anguish over the prospect of his constituency losing its status as the district headquarters.

According to sources present at the meeting, the Minister found it difficult to contain his feelings, fearing that the proposed change could diminish Rayachoti’s administrative and developmental importance. The developments prompted immediate intervention by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, who personally stepped in to console the distressed Minister.

The Chief Minister is said to have explained the technical and administrative challenges involved in continuing Rayachoti as the district headquarters, outlining the broader governance considerations behind the proposal. At the same time, he sought to reassure Ramprasad Reddy that the government remained firmly committed to Rayachoti’s development.

According to the sources, Chandrababu Naidu assured the Minister that Rayachoti’s growth would not be neglected and that he would personally oversee development initiatives in the region. “There is no need for concern regarding Rayachoti’s future. Its development will receive focused attention,” the Chief Minister reportedly told him.

Ramprasad Reddy, who was elected as an MLA from the Rayachoti constituency and later inducted into the Cabinet, has been closely associated with the region’s aspirations. The emotional episode during the Cabinet meeting has since become a subject of political discussion, highlighting the sensitivities involved in district reorganisation and its local impact.
