The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Standing Committee on Monday approved the draft annual budget proposals for the 2026–27 financial year, pegged at Rs 11,460 crore, along with the revised budget estimates for 2025–26. The approvals were granted during a special meeting held at the GHMC headquarters under the chairpersonship of Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi.
The Standing Committee discussed the financial proposals in detail, including allocations covering GHMC limits along with the merged municipalities. Following its approval, the draft budget for 2026–27 will be placed before the GHMC Council in the upcoming meeting for final clearance. The committee also cleared the revised estimates for the ongoing financial year, paving the way for continued civic spending.
Apart from the budget, the committee approved all 15 agenda items and seven additional items placed before it. Key decisions included permission for infrastructure development works such as construction of a cremation unit with supporting facilities at Izzatnagar in Chandanagar circle, and administrative approval for construction of a box drain near ENT Hospital in Khairatabad zone.
The committee also resolved to take up major road and transport infrastructure proposals with the State government. These include a proposed 45-metre wide road from Chandanagar to Ameenpur, a 30-metre road towards St. Arnold High School, and flyovers, grade separators and underpasses between Miyapur and Alwyn crossroads, subject to feasibility studies and land acquisition.
Several Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects related to maintenance of central medians, flyovers, parks and green spaces across Serilingampally zone were extended for three more years. Proposals for AI-based solutions on the GHMC website, including chatbots and automated services, were also approved, with a contract period of three years.
Meanwhile, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan directed zonal and deputy commissioners to intensify sanitation efforts across the city. A special sanitation drive began on Monday, with focused cleaning of foot overbridges on the first day.
