Mirchowk Police apprehended a notorious snatching gang at Bibi Bazar X Roads on Thursday, recovering Rs 17,000 in cash, a Honda Twister motorcycle, and an OPPO mobile phone.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohd Ismail (23), Abdul Rahman (23), and Mohammad Akbar (20). The incident dates back to April 17, when complainant D Raju, a cashier at BPCL in Kalikabar, was targeted while on duty. Two individuals arrived on a motorcycle without a number plate, requesting petrol worth Rs 100. One of them attempted to pay via QR code, taking a picture and forwarding it through WhatsApp, but the cashier insisted on payment before serving fuel.
As Raju was attending another customer, one of the suspects swiftly snatched approximately Rs 19,000 in cash from his hand and fled. His accomplice, ready with the two-wheeler, sped away towards Chaderghat, allowing them to escape.
Following the incident, Mirchowk Police registered a case and launched an investigation. Special teams were formed, reviewing over 60 CCTV recordings and analyzing technical data, ultimately identifying and arresting the culprits. The police continue to investigate further links and urge vigilance among local businesses.
