Telangana Legislative Council member Teenmar Mallanna has raised serious concerns over massive encroachments on Bhoodan lands across the state. He said that the demolition of homes in Khammam’s Velugumatla is just the tip of the iceberg, with politicians and real estate mafias reportedly grabbing hundreds of thousands of acres meant for the landless.

Mallanna demanded an immediate state-wide white paper and investigation. He urged the government to conduct a comprehensive survey of the 1.82 lakh acres of Bhoodan land collected by Vinoba Bhave, with a High Court sitting judge overseeing the probe. The findings should clearly indicate which districts have lost how much land to illegal occupation.

According to reports, nearly one lakh acres of Bhoodan land have gone missing, particularly in Rangareddy,

Medchal, Yadadri, and Khammam districts, where lands worth crores of rupees have been taken over by real estate interests. Mallanna demanded that the government reclaim these lands immediately and redistribute them to landless, Dalit, and tribal families for agriculture and housing, instead of allowing wealthy individuals or companies to benefit.

He also highlighted that 600 families in Velugumatla, who lost their homes, should receive not only resettlement but permanent pattas. He called for strict action against political leaders involved in selling forged Bhoodan documents.
