“A Midnight Failure”: If a Police Commissioner is not safe, who is” questions Dr. Sravan Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) and senior BRS leader Dr. Sravan Dasoju on Wednesday strongly criticized the Congress-led state government, following the harrowing "midnight ordeal" of Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B. Sumathi IPS. Dr. Sravan expressed deep anguish, stating that if a high-ranking IPS officer is subjected to harassment by a mob of 40 rowdies in the heart of the city, then the safety of the common woman has been officially buried under this administration.
Dr. Sravan pointed to the latest crime data to highlight that this incident is not an isolated lapse but part of a dangerous trend. He mentioned that in 2025 alone, while the government claimed a dip in overall crime, crimes against women in Hyderabad surged by 6%, and the state saw a 9% rise in cases of outraging modesty. He stated that Telangana now leads South India in atrocities against women, accounting for over 5% of the national tally. He questioned how the government could claim to be ‘Future Ready’ when the numbers show that kidnapping, stalking and harassment are on a steady incline.
Dr. Sravan launched a direct attack on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who also holds the Home Portfolio, questioning his "obsession" with the Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC). “The CM spends more time at the Command Control Center than at the Secretariat. If the most advanced surveillance system in the country cannot detect 40 goons harassing a woman in real-time, then the ‘Command’ has failed and the ‘Control’ is non-existent.” Dr. Shravan questioned and alleged that the technology is being used for political espionage while the streets are left to the mercy of criminals.”
Dr. Sravan alleged that the police force has been crippled by political interference. He lamented that instead of proactive policing, officers are being exhausted in the suppression of the opposition and in filing of false cases. When the protectors are turned into political henchmen, law and order is the first casualty, he charged.
Dr. Sravan demanded immediate accountability from Revanth Reddy and questioned why patrol units were missing from their beats. He described that episode as a “chilling wake-up call” that the administration is asleep at the wheel. Hyderabad—a global city—deserves better than this shameful descent into lawlessness,” Dr. Sravan stated.
