Mobile thief shot while attacking DCP

Hyderabad: A mobile phone snatcher was injured on Saturday afternoon after police opened fire when he allegedly attempted to attack the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East). According to official reports, the suspect initially tried to snatch a phone from a civilian in a crowded area. When officers moved to apprehend him, he reportedly became aggressive and attempted to physically confront the police. 

On Chaderghat Road, the DCP noticed the suspect fleeing with the stolen phone. He and his Personal Security Officer (PSO) pursued the individual to intercept him. During the chase, the suspect reportedly drew a knife and attempted to assault both the DCP and PSO. Speaking to media persons, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar said ‘In the melee, the gunman fell to the ground.

The DCP then discharged three rounds, with one hitting the suspect.’ In response to the immediate threat, DCP (South East) S Chaitanya Kumar fired a single shot to neutralize the attacker. The injured suspect was quickly taken to a private hospital, where he received medical care. Authorities confirmed that he remains under observation, while investigations continue into the attempted robbery and the events leading to the police response.
