MP DK Aruna demanded that the state government fulfill its promise and immediately regularize contract lecturers across Telangana. Visiting the protest camp at Palamuru University, Mahabubnagar on Saturday, where assistant professors are on an indefinite strike, she extended her solidarity.
Aruna recalled that in 2008, they fought hard to establish Palamuru University, securing Rs 100 crore funding during the Telangana movement under CM Kiran Kumar Reddy. However, after Telangana’s formation, the management of universities has been neglected, she criticized.
She expressed concern over ongoing protests across 12 universities and condemned the arrest of 750 lecturers demanding their legitimate rights. "Did you forget the promises you made before becoming CM?" she questioned, urging the Chief Minister to uphold his election commitments.
Stating that only 1,200 lecturers are affected statewide, Aruna demanded swift decisions in the education sector and immediate cancellation of GO 21. She urged the government to invite lecturers for talks, address their demands, and ensure quality education by regularizing contracts and guest faculty. She also assured she would raise UGC-related concerns with the central government.
