In a pioneering initiative to bridge the digital divide and empower students with advanced technological skills, Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Education, and IT, Nara Lokesh, on Friday inspected the prototype of the AP-Maker-Lab-On-Wheels vehicle.

The innovative project, launched in collaboration with the renowned software giant Infosys, showcases the latest advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The mobile lab is designed to bring transformative digital and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education to students, especially those in remote areas, aligning with the objectives of the Government of India’s Digital India and ESG Vision-2030 frameworks.

During the inspection at his residence in Undavalli, Lokesh emphasized the importance of democratizing access to world-class technology and fostering awareness about global advancements in education and industry.

The AP-Maker-Lab-On-Wheels vehicle will first operate on an experimental basis in Mangalagiri, where it will visit schools to conduct interactive learning sessions. The primary aim is to expose students to the rapidly evolving technological landscape and equip them with practical skills.

“With Infosys partnering in this transformative journey, we’re ensuring that students, regardless of their location, have access to cutting-edge learning tools. This initiative is a significant step towards a digitally empowered Andhra Pradesh,” Lokesh remarked.

Based on the success of the pilot program, the initiative will be rolled out across all educational institutions in the state. The Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC), in collaboration with Infosys, plans to expand the reach of these mobile labs to deliver free digital and STEM education even in the state’s remotest areas.

The program aligns with the government’s vision of creating equitable learning opportunities and enhancing the employability of young talent.

Each visit by the Maker-Lab-On-Wheels will offer a 90-minute interactive session for students, during which they can engage with advanced technology and gain hands-on experience.

Infosys has integrated its Springboard platform into the program, offering students access to a variety of free courses in emerging fields. Upon successful completion of these courses, students will receive globally recognized certifications, further enhancing their career prospects.

The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art amenities, including laptops, tablets, and workstations with robotics and IoT kits. These resources enable students to experiment, innovate, and develop a deeper understanding of modern technologies.

Infosys has committed an initial investment of Rs.5 crore to set up the AP-Maker-Lab-On-Wheels and will bear an annual operational cost of Rs.40 lakh. The company has also pledged to supply comprehensive course content and provide trainer support. With a target to reach 4,800 students every three months, Infosys estimates spending Rs.1,500 per student on this initiative.
